Contact Us

The best way to find out about the club is to visit us and meet some members.

The club is open on Sundays during terms 4 and 1 from 8.30am until about 4pm.

Our club is run by volunteers, so if your query cannot answered by the frequently asked questions (FAQs) and you’ve had a good look through the website, then send us a message and we will get back to you, hopefully within a couple of days.

News

Our Easter Sailing Camps have been cancelled.

Robert Ugarte

Due to the uncertainty of the situation, we cannot commit to hosting the sailing camps planned for the Easter break.

This decision has not been made lightly. For those of you who want to organise it, we encourage you to come down for a sail and spend possibly the most enjoyable sailing season during the school break. The committee stresses that you must maintain all due diligence, on and off the water, while using our fabulous club.

Season Countdown!

Robert Ugarte

Can you believe that we are half way through term 1 and there are only 5 sailing Sundays left this season.

We start off with the final 2 Club Championship weekends over the next two weeks..

Club Champ 6 is on this weekend the 8th of March for all classes.

Club Champ 7 is on the next weekend the 15th of March for all classes.

The Sabot Zones are on the following weekend the 21st and 22nd of March at Lane Cove Sailing Club and we will have Round 6 of the Kutti Cup at the club for those who are not away.

The 29th March sees the last of the Sprint Series for the year and almost any of our sailors can still take the prize.

Finally we have the Adventure Day on the 5th of April. This year we will be hosting a treasure hunt passage around the bay to collect clues to find treasure somewhere in the vicinity of Kutti Beach. All of our Kambala students and their families are invited as well as all of our sailing school families and of course the racing fleets. After the adventure lunch will be served in the clubhouse and we will be holding our Season Presentation and Prize giving for all levels and classes. Watch this space for the details in the coming weeks.

It looks like there may be a stiff breeze this weekend so get ready to sheet on and hike out! We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!

Kutti Cocktails postponed to the Spring.

Robert Ugarte

After much deliberation it has been decided by the members to hold Kutti Cocktails in the last weeks of term 3. This will give us the opportunity to get the new season off to a flying start. We will have plenty of time to prepare a fantastic evening for one and all. We will be able to focus on the season ahead and get all of our wonderful members really psyched for a great summer on the water and relaxing in our very special little clubhouse.

So, stay tuned for more details for Kutti Cocktails at the VA12SC sometime in September.

Easter Holiday Camps 2020

Jules Hall

Remarkably it’s only 5 weeks until the Easter school holidays. How does time travel so fast?!

We’ve got two weeks of camps scheduled this Easter:

  • Tuesday 14th April - Friday 17th April

  • Monday 20th April - Friday 24th April

It’s really helpful to get early notice of who will be attending - then we have time to get the right number of instructors lined up. You can book here. More details on holiday camps available here.

With a bigger race fleet this season we could put on a specialist camp for those kids. If you think that could be interesting, please send an email to sailingschool@va12sc.org.au. With an initial show of hands we can work if it’s worth putting on.

Back to normal this Sunday!

Jules Hall

Not surprisingly there wasn’t much sailing at VA12SC last Sunday, just one dramatic rescue of a tender that had broken it’s moorings!

After last weekend’s wild weather BOM is forecasting a far more manageable 8-10 knot breeze for this weekend.

Sailing School will be in action from 8.30am.

For the race fleet it’s heat 7 of the Club Championships with Sabots in the morning, Flying 11s and Cherubs in the afternoon.

Most importantly, the Canteen will be back to normal operations!

Look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

Sailing this Sunday

Jules Hall

We have a big weekend of regattas this weekend. The Sabot race fleet are up in Gosford at round 2 of the NSW State Titles and the Cherub NSW State Titles are running at Drummoyne SC.

Whilst that means a lot of families will be away the club will be hosting sailing as usual.

Sailing School activities kick off at the usual times.

Kutti Cup racing will be held for any boats not traveling to regattas.

Please note that as Fiona and Sasha are away at the state titles the canteen service will be limited. Tanya Hall and Kirstie Amland are kindly doing the breakfast BBQ. Payment this week will be cash only. No other canteen service will be available.

Next week everything will be back to normal operations.

Good luck to the regatta fleet. We look forward to seeing everyone else at the club on Sunday.

Diary Dates

Newsletter Editor

A couple of important dates for the diaries as we head into the back half of the season:

Saturday 28th March - Kutti Cocktails

This is the evening that all the hardworking parents get to come down to the club and relax over some well earned drinks. For those that haven’t been before, this is a fun night!

Sunday 5th April - Adventure Day

To mark the end of the season we load the kids onto their sailing boats, rally the fleet of support boats and head off in a flotilla for Clifton Gardens where we have a picnic before sailing back. Winds are normally light this time of year and it’s a great day out.

The last day of Sailing School and racing for Term 1 will be Sunday 29th March.

Midsummer Wrap

Robert Ugarte

I hope you are all enjoying the holidays and looking forward to a great Australia Day.

Sunday Sailing

Sunday Sailing starts back on the 2nd of February with Sailing School from 8.30 am and Club Championship Heat 4 for all classes.

Our summer camps are getting rave reviews. We look forward to welcoming a great bunch of kids to Term 1 @ VA12SC very soon!

Sabot Nationals

The Sabot Nationals was a fantastic event that was enjoyed by many. Our club and all members can be proud of just how good a regatta it was. Kate and the whole team did an awesome job. We have received many compliments. Thank you to one and all for presenting our club so well. Click here for results, photos and more!

Huge Congratulations to all of our sailors! This is all about You!

A special mention to our best-placed sailor, Max Nearn for an admirable 22nd overall and 10th as a best place. At 11 years old he has plenty of years ahead in the sabot. He will be one to watch in years to come.

Next years Nationals are at Townsville Sailing Club. May I suggest a VA12SC New Years Eve on Magnetic Island?

The Flying 11’s have just finished their nationals at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron In Brisbane. Click here for Results. Once again our representatives did us proud.

Australia Day

This Sunday is a huge day on the harbour. We encourage all members to get involved with the celebrations. Let us know your plans so that we can manage vessels. The harbour programme for the day can be found here.

Big Year for 2020

On behalf of the committee, I extend to you all, a warm welcome to the new year. Let’s all work hard to give our kids the best experience possible while keeping it real, positive and super fast on the water.

We have a fantastic group of families at the moment and the enthusiasm can only be contagious. We look forward to welcoming lots of new members and hope that the parents add to the fantastic function of our beautiful club

Please read the emails and commit yourselves to lots of fun in term one. Till the autumn arrives and beyond. Make sure you have subscribed to the newsletter on our website and invite your friends (they can subscribe here).

Once again, Thanks to everyone who makes this club tick. We are very lucky.

See You Soon!

Winning Appliances 56th Sabot Nationals

Newsletter Editor

3rd - 7th January saw 65 Sabots and family supporters descend on VA12SC for the Winning Appliances Sabot National Championships and Shipway Sabot Week.

With teams travelling from as far away as Townsville the pressure was on to deliver. And deliver the club did!

From the moment the regatta started there was something special in the air. The energy, excitement and quite frankly almost ludicrous levels of commitment from the volunteers was amazing! The club had it’s mojo and it was rockin’!

Mother nature rose to the challenge, delivering every kind of condition from fickle five knots to 20+ knot southerlies, testing the mettle of the competitors and ensuring that only the worthy won.

The new kitchen was given a serious run for it’s money, producing vast volumes of food for the perpetually hungry competitors. And the boat parks at Gibsons and Kutti beaches were a whirlwind of energy. The daily war cries from the different zone teams kept reminding us this was serious business with no prisoners for the taking!

After four days of epic racing (and eating), the whole regatta community descended on the Watsons Bay Hotel for the prize giving. With the Sunset Room bursting at the seams, yet more food was devoured, the trophies were awarded, speeches were made and the regatta was officially, and very successfully, concluded.

To all those that donated time, money or resources, on behalf of the club a very heartfelt thank you. You all made it amazing.

A very special thank you must go to the Regatta Director, Kate O’Loughlin, who along with husband David, worked incredibly hard for most of 2019 to make the regatta the success it was. Their commitment was phenomenal. As was the regatta they delivered.

Sarah Silverton’s fabulous regatta photos can be viewed here

Dick Winning Fun Day

Newsletter Editor

Last Sunday was the annual Dick Winning Fun Day. A day of many highlights, but perhaps most importantly, the one day you are allowed to swim from the deck.

There were swimming races, tug of war challenges, slippery poles. treasure hunts, sailing races and a cheeky visit from the big man, Santa.

All in all a lot of fun and a fitting conclusion to the Term 4 Sunday sailing program.
