Marine ecology survey completed!
Miles Davey
This week a marine ecology survey was completed around the clubhouse wharf to inform the Development Application for the clubhouse wharf renewal works. The survey revealed a typical rocky marine temperate environment with no significant seagrass beds.
The ecologist on duty marvelled at the clarity of the water and the delightful time he had observing seasonal tropical fish and other pelagic species. The lack of rubbish or debris including under the wharf is something to be proud of. Despite significant and irreversible changes to our harbour foreshore over the years, the marine habitat and its rocky reefs remain intact, bounce back and are abundant with life.
As custodians of this space, we have the privilege of preserving the natural environment. If you're interested, take a moment to grab a snorkel and discover the wonders that surround us. I'd be happy to share some insights about the fish and marine ecosystems that might spark your curiosity.
