Learn to Sail Courses we offer
Our Term 1 courses will start on Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th of February, 2025. Please note Club membership is required to book a term course at VA12SC. All membership information available here.

Start Sailing 1
This course is ideal for first time sailors or kids who loved our holiday camp and want to enjoy sailing on the weekend!
On the Pacers in the initial weeks of the course, children are accompanied in the boat by one of our qualified instructors. Later, if kids feel ready, we progress them in pairs into Optis.
The big focus is fun - we want children to love it and come back and do more!
Program running:
Saturdays 12:30pm - 2:30pm
Course duration: 8 weeks in Term 1 and Term 4
Course fee per term: $484 per term
Start Sailing 2
This course is recommended for kids that have completed SS1 in a previous term or have previous dinghy sailing experience.
Participants sail in the club’s fleet of Optis and PJ dinghies. Initially starting in pairs (we call this 2-up), students learn the fundamental skills of sailing.
When sailors feel confident and have learnt the basic skills, we introduce them to sailing the boats independently (we call this 1-up).
Program running:
Saturdays 12:30pm - 2:30pm
Sunday 9am - 11:30am
Course duration: 8 weeks in Term 1 and Term 4
Course fee per term: $484 per term
Better Sailing
After completing Start Sailing 1 & 2, participants progress on to Better Sailing. Kids can choose to sail 1-up (solo) or 2-up (with a friend crewing).
Sailors gain experience in stronger winds and develop the skills required to sail at max speed and accurately control the boat on the different points of sail.
Please note: Participants will be required to rig their own boats (with parental help) and have these ready by 9:30am.
We will also be offering an optional green fleet race from 11:30am to 12:00am which the participants are welcome to join at no additional cost.

Course duration: 8 weeks in Term 1 and Term 4

Adults Learn to Sail (18+)
This course is designed for Adults and is ideal for both complete beginners and those with prior sailing experience. For this course, we use our fleet of Pacer dinghies.
Initially, adults (in pairs) will be accompanied on the boat by one of our qualified instructors. This will enable you to confidently sail the boat with a partner by the end of the course.
We welcome solo bookings, or bring a friend or partner.
Program running:
Sundays: 9:00am - 11:30am
Course duration: 6 weeks in Term 1 and Term 4
Course fee per term: $363 per term
Teens Better Sailing (14 - 18)
In this course, students will use their own boat, or one of the club boats. Sailors focus on practicing skills that will prepare them for competing in our race fleet and regattas.
The participants may choose to join the race fleet under the instruction of their coaches or practice their boat handling skills with adventure sailing.
