Close racing in Club Championships Heat 2

Last weekend saw Heat 2 of the Club champs run in shifty N-NE breeze. The wind was a light 8kn for the start of Race 1, swinging north just before the start, which saw some last minute course adjustments by the race committee.
Racing was tight in the first race, with the lead changing several times. Back in Action (Sol Golovsky) and Shake a Leg (Emma Badger) fought for the lead on each windward leg, with both searching for shifts on the right side of the course. Back in Action, held on downwind to take the win in race 1 by 11 seconds.
Race 2 saw the wind build and settle in from the NE with a good 12-14kn for the start of the race. Shake a Leg moved into the lead early despite a poor start, and extended that lead through good upwind shift picking. Skippered by Emma Badger, Shake a Leg held on to take the win by 30 seconds. The tight battle was for the remaining podium places, with 2nd place being hard fought for by the next group of boats. Chicken Dinner (Lachlan Keyte) sailed strongly, holding on to 2nd place for much of the race. Infinity (Ed Story) sailed well, and swapped places with Back In Action Several times for 4th. A congested final windward mark rounding saw altercations between Back in Action and Chicken Dinner, with Back in Action coming out on top and rounding the top mark in 2nd, with Infinity in 3rd. There was less than a boat length between 2nd and 3rd and 4th for the last reach and final work with Back in Action finishing in 2nd, only 2 seconds ahead of infinity, and Chicken Dinner only 7 seconds behind.
