Club Championship Round 1

Newsletter Editor

The first races of the season, and Races 1 and 2 of the Club championship, were run on Sunday in shifty, ENE conditions. With the wind swinging 180 degrees just before the start, the RO of the day, Geoff Golovsky, was seen scratching his head.

Race 1 saw Shake a Leg, steered by Emma Badger, sail a great race, picking the shifts early to establish a strong lead. She held on for the rest of the race and finished with a gap of over 2 minutes to the next boat. Infinity, skippered by Ed Story, came in 2nd, sailing a strong race. Back In Action, Sol Golovsky, finished in 3rd and Chicken Dinner, with Lachlan Keyte at the helm, in 4th.

Race 2 started in better breeze with a gentle, but building NE wind. Emma Badger again won the start and sailed consistently up the first work, picking the pressure, and rounding the top mark 1st. She displayed good boat handling around the course. Sol Golovsky returned to contention in Race 2, and kept the pressure on Emma, finishing only 29s behind. Ed Story came in 3rd, and Lachlan Keyte, despite lots of encouragement from the sidelines, came in 4th.

Club Championship Standings after Heat 1
