2019/20 Head Coach - Adele Phillips
Jules Hall
we’re delighted to have Adele Phillips as Head Coach for the upcoming season. Adele will be overseeing the coaching team for the Sunday morning sailing school where the club will be running the Australian Sailing Dinghy Program for the first time.
A few words from Adele…
Sailing is a spectacular sport in which you never stop learning. Every time I am out on the water, whether it’s a nationals race or a training day, I take something away from it. Learning to sailing is a gift few have the privilege of acquiring. Here is a little background on how I started my sailing journey…
My father comes from a long line of sailors and boat builders. At 8 years old I completed a learn to sail course at the same club my father did. At age 12 my sister and I won the sabot 2-up State Championships held at Vaucluse. As a 1-up in sabots I won the Australia Day regatta. At 16 my crew and I won the cherub division at the Combined High School Championships. At 17 sailing in a cherub with my father, who I sail with to this day, we won Cadet National Champions.
I am a qualified Instructor with a racing endorsement enabling me to teach Start Racing and Better Racing. I’m also trained in First Aid and CPR. Over the years I have coached:
4 seasons at Drummoyne (kids and adults LTS courses in sabots, RS Fevas and Visions)
2 seasons at Georges River (kids, youths and adults LTS and Racing courses in optimists, lasers, RS Fevas and Visions)
Sabot association training weekends for States and Nationals
2 seasons at Vaucluse
I truly love the sport and the opportunity to teach others what I’m passionate about is rewarding in itself. It’s incredible to watch the progress of the kids over just eight weeks. I endeavour to create a fun, safe and inclusive learning environment for everyone involved! I look forward to welcoming you all to the club in a few short weeks.
Best regards
Adele
